Dial-a-Ride

Need help getting around? Oswestry Dial-a-Ride provides a friendly door-to-door transport service for people who can’t access public transport or don’t have a car. Whether it’s attending medical appointments, going shopping, or running personal errands, the service makes travelling simple and stress-free.

Community Cars

As well as Dial-a-Ride, we run a Community Car Service, supported by a fantastic team of volunteer drivers. Using their own cars, our volunteers help people make all sorts of journeys; from hospital appointments to visiting family outside the area, this service provides vital travel support for the community.

Oswestry Dial-a-Ride provides a reliable door-to-door transport service for people who are unable to access public transport or do not have the use of a car. Whether you need to attend a medical appointment, go shopping, or take care of everyday errands, our service makes travelling around the community simple, convenient, and stress-free.

Our fleet currently includes four minibuses and three smaller vehicles, all of which are fully Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs), ensuring we can support passengers with a wide range of mobility needs.

This vital service wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our friendly and supportive volunteer drivers and passenger assistants, who work alongside our small team of full and part-time staff. Together, they help ensure every journey is safe, comfortable, and welcoming.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can use Oswestry Dial-a-Ride?

Adults (18+) can use the service. Passengers that use our service most frequently are elderly wheelchair users and those are rurally isolated.

Where can I go and when can I travel?

Dial-a-Ride operates on a ten-mile radius of Oswestry.

Oswestry Dial-a-Ride vehicles operate on weekdays (Monday to Friday) between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm.

Some of the places our members often go are:

  • Medical appointments
  • Personal business i.e. visiting family and friends
  • Social events
  • Social groups and organised trips

How much does it cost to use the service?

To access the OCA Community Transport service you will need to become a member which costs £30 per person, annually. There is a cost to each journey which is calculated dependent on the distance you are travelling.

How do I book a trip?

Bookings must be made at least 72 hours priors to when you would like to travel. You are able to call our booking telephone line between 9.30 am and 3.30 pm, Monday to Friday.

To make a booking, please call the transport direct line on 01691 671571. 

Please note, booking requests can only be confirmed once a driver has been allocated to a journey, the transport team will call you to confirm your journey once this is the case.

What if I have to cancel my booking?

Due to ongoing demand of our service, we ask that if your journey is going to be cancelled please call as soon as possible. If you cancel within 24 hours of your journey you may be charged a cancellation fee of £8.

Community Cars

Our Community Car Service is delivered by our fantastic team of volunteer drivers. Using their own cars, they provide flexible and invaluable transport for people who cannot access public transport or who do not have the use of their own vehicle.

This service is designed to offer a more personalised travel option, helping people make journeys that might otherwise be difficult or impossible. Whether it’s travelling to a hospital or medical appointment, visiting friends and family outside the local area, or attending important meetings and errands, our volunteer drivers are there to help.

The Community Car Service plays a vital role in supporting independence and reducing isolation, ensuring that people can stay connected with their loved ones, access essential services, and remain active within their community. Thanks to the dedication and generosity of our volunteer drivers, we are able to provide a reliable and friendly transport option that truly makes a difference to people’s daily lives.
